Extended Care Program

The Extended Care program is available to Mulberry elementary students, from Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Extended Care was developed in response to the growing need for quality, developmental childcare before and after school.

Extended Care teachers are trained in the Positive Parenting/T.E.A.M. (Techniques for Effective Aide Management) class at Mulberry and use a positive discipline approach to encourage children to self-regulate their own behavior.

Our goal is to provide a safe, fun and respectful after-school environment where children can interact within a variety of age groups through unstructured activities. The program fosters the development of self-concept by providing an environment that is accepting and supportive of differences.

The daily schedule includes planned and supervised activities, both indoors and outdoors.  A nutritious snack is served midway through the afternoon.

Parents are welcome to visit the program, to meet the teachers and observe.  Parents are also encouraged to discuss ideas, concerns and questions with the Director of Operations.  For information or to schedule an observation, please contact the Director of Operations, Traci Kohler, at: traci@mulberry.org

Hours

The Extended Care program is in operation every day that school is in session.  It is closed during all school holidays and staff inservice days.  However, as a service to our families, care is offered on all day on Elementary conference days.

  • The morning session begins at 7:30 am and ends at 9:00 am.
  • The afternoon session begins at 12:00 noon and ends at 6:00 pm.

Fees

An annual fee of $10 is required at the time of school registration from all who plan to use this program.  The cost of the Extended Care program is $7.00 per hour for drop-in care and $5.00 per hour for care that has been contracted by the 25th of the preceding month. All fees are based on half-hour increments.
